HIGH MOUNTAIN Happiness Tea is a blend of 50-50 tea leaves and tea stalks from ShanLinXi high mountain region. It is abundant in the amino acid L-theanine and low in caffeine.
L-theanine, amongst its numerous benefits, helps your body relax and feel comfortable, promoting a sense of happiness. Studies have shown tea stalks are abundant in L-theanine - more than 5 time the amount contained in leaves!
Furthermore tea stalks contain only 10~50% the amount of caffeine in tea leaves. Therefore a blend with 50% tea stalks can be considered high in theanine and low in caffeine. (See blog post for detailed discussion.)
Though there are differences, this tea can be considered a Taiwan version of Japan's kukicha tea. Like kukicha, Happiness Tea has a mild nutty taste. It also tastes sweet with savory umami due to abundant amino acids. A mild roast releases a caramel-like aroma, leaving a sweet lingering in your throat. This tea does not become bitter or astringent with over-steeping.
